North Cottage is one of three secluded cottages converted from the original Thwaite Farmhouse and Barns on the Scargill Estate, near Barnard Castle. The Scargill Estate encompasses attractive moorland and woodland, featuring abundant wildlife of special interest to bird enthusiasts. There are lovely walks and bridleways on the moor and along the River Greta. Practically no light pollution means amazing dark skies for all you stargazers too!
The stunning rural location of Thwaite Cottages is only a short drive to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the town of Barnard Castle, and less than an hour to the city of Durham.
North Cottage offers lovely views over the beautiful countryside of Teesdale, is tastefully furnished and very well-equipped, providing home comforts and making it ideal for all families, couples, friends, and dog! The cottage sleeps four guests in two bedrooms, has lots of outside space, ample parking, and a garden with garden furniture.
Layout:
The front door brings you into a small porch with a built-in wardrobe for your coats and boots.
Turn left into a spacious, comfortable living room with sofa, armchairs, coffee tables and bookshelves, as well as a traditional open log fire (logs provided), and wonderful views on both sides across the open countryside. The French windows open and lead onto the patio and large fenced garden.
Down a couple of steps from the living room into a bright, airy dining/kitchen. Fully fitted, it includes a fridge/freezer, electric oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, and is very well-equipped for preparing, cooking, and serving meals.
The utility room near the back door in the kitchen has a washer/dryer, iron, and ironing board.
From the porch, turn right into the master bedroom, with a King size bed, bedside cabinets and lamps, wardrobe, cheval mirror, and chest of drawers. There is a bathroom next to this bedroom with a shower, wash hand basin, W.C., and heated towel rail.
Up the stairs from the kitchen is the twin bedroom with two single beds, wardrobe, chest of drawers and chair. The en-suite bathroom has a bath/shower, W.C., and heated towel rail.
There is a large, enclosed/fenced garden in the back with patio furniture for those long summer evenings. Parking is at the front of the cottage.
Heating and electricity included in your rental. We provide all bedding, bed linen and towels, TV, and WiFi (subject to fair usage policy).
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome at an added fee of £20 per dog.
Please note: Gardens/Outside areas not necessarily dog proof, even if fenced/walled, so dogs need to be kept under control at all times, especially near farm animals.
Absolutely blissful location, weather horrible but we were lovely and warm in front of the log fire with the Christmas tree up it felt like a picture postcard Christmas .

the location,the walking, the well maintained property, the friendly and helpful staff at broadland and to jo who is always on hand for anything!!!
I found some kind of sauce stain on the bedding on the double bed on the corner.......and the hoover doesn't suck that well.but other than that everything marvelous....

Well furnished & equipped. Warm welcome & warm comforable accommodation. Logs & coal for fire in sitting room as well as good central heating much appreciated as the weather during our stay was not very good. We loved the location & would certainly like to return in the future.

The cottage was excellent in a fantastic location.
The bed was very soft and did become uncomfortable towards the end of the week. The price of the cottage was reasonable but we feel the dog charge was a bit too high.

The location, the facilities, the furnishings, my husband loved the open fire, the large, dog-proof garden - in fact, everything!
The lack of internet. The back lobby door needed easing, so couldn't be used - it would have been helpful if it could have been. Owner was informed.

Wonderful location and everything in the cottage to an amazingly high standard. Every detail thought of and covered. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, returning ASAP!!
Cancellation: The Holidaymaker is liable for the total hire charge unless written notice of the intention to cancel the booking is received at least eight weeks prior to the commencement of the holiday. The deposit paid to confirm the booking, and other monies paid, will only be refunded if the Owner is able to re-let the holiday cottage for the period of the holiday let. In the event of re-letting, the Owner will retain the sum of 100GBP to cover administrative costs and (subject to deduction of that sum) refund to the Holidaymaker the balance of monies received from the Holidaymaker, or the sum received from re-letting whichever sum shall be the lower. Every effort will be made to re-let a cancelled booking, but the Holidaymaker is advised to take out holiday insurance to cover that eventuality.
